There are three categories of burns.
1) First Degree Burns leave red marks and usually do not burn the skin.
2) Second degree burns are often extremly painful and break the skin, which has a risk of infection.
3) In a third degree burn the nerve endings may be burned and there is the possibility of major infection and even risk of death because protection has been lost.
